Using the Summer to Prepare for a U.S. Job Search

No matter where you are or what you will be doing this summer, you can use that time to prepare for a U.S. job search.

In this semester’s final session of the International Student Career Group, we will cover the following items you can do in the summer:

  • Set professional goals
  • Research a field of interest
  • Inventory your skills and your transferable skills
  • Learn to understand what an employer is looking for
  • Do some American style networking
  • Improve your job search documents
  • Do a deep dive on the Office of Career Planning and Professional Development website
  • Make an individual appointment with a career advisor

We will also use this session to try to answer ANY career related questions.

About this Group

Do you feel confused about the U.S. job or internship search process? Are you concerned about making mistakes or doing the wrong thing? Do you have questions about the American resume and cover letter, timelines, job websites, recruiters, interviewing, when and how to reveal your immigration status to a prospective employer, American-style networking, and much more?

You are not alone. Join the International Online Career Group and meet fellow GC students, postdoctoral scholars, and recent alumni who are dealing with the same issues. This is a safe space where any question can be asked.

The group will be facilitated by one of our career advisers, Don Goldstein, and our Administrative Coordinator, Annabella Bernard. Whether you’ve attended in the past or are new to the group—all are Welcome!
