Plan to attend an upcoming information session specifically for CUNY students for the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program that is being hosted by Anna Chung from the Office of Field Policy and Management, Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The PMF Program is the Federal Government’s premier leadership development program for advanced degree holders (Master’s, Professional, or Doctorate). The fellowship is full time, with full salary and benefits, training and development opportunities, and which, for Fellows who complete the program successfully, can ultimately lead to a career in government. The program’s mission is to recruit and develop a cadre of future government leaders from all segments of society. To be eligible for the fellowship program, students must be current graduate students who expect to have completed an advanced degree by August 31st of the year following the annual application, OR be a recent graduate who has completed an advanced degree during the two years prior to the launch of the PMF Program’s annual application.  The next application will be open from September 4-18, 2024.

Speakers:

Bianca Nelson: HUD – Program Analyst
Bianca Nelson works in the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Field Policy & Management. Working in the ‘front office’ of HUD’s Region II (New York/New Jersey) means supporting the Regional Administrator in her events and interactions with the public, as well as acting as the public face of HUD to the region. This means meeting with community members, stakeholders, tenants, and anyone else who might interact with HUD in New York and New Jersey to hear their issues and concerns and connect them with resources to help. Bianca graduated from George Mason University with a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Pratt Institute.
Jennifer Mullen: HUD – Community Planning and Development Specialist
Jennifer was a part of the 2021 PMF cohort at HUD’s Office of HIV/AIDS Housing (OHH). Her role is a Community Planning and Development Specialist and she works on OHH’s Policy and Operations team. Jennifer’s day to day responsibilities include administering Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) grants in eight states and serving as the HOPWA program formula grant policy lead. She received an MPH from Columbia University and a BA in Global Studies from NYU.
Anna-Louise Chung: HUD – Program Analyst
Anna Chung, moderator, works in the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Field Policy & Management. Working in HUD’s ‘front office’ has provided opportunities to work in many policy areas important to Anna, such as the intersection of health and housing, climate change and resiliency building, and fostering job opportunities for HUD clients. Anna graduated from Baruch College’s Marxe School of Public and International Affairs with a Master of Public Administration in Policy Analysis and Evaluation, and received a BA in International Relations from Salem College in North Carolina.
Sara Romanoski: OPM – Design Project Manager
Sara works at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in The Lab as a Design Project Manager. She worked on an interdisciplinary design team building capacity for human-centered design among the federal workforce. She also served as a project manager on design projects in collaboration with federal agencies, managed a portfolio of work with OPM’s largest agency partner, conducted design-led research, developed course content, facilitated classes and workshops, created a print and digital guide on the design process, and contributed to the continued develop of the program’s internal processes and operations. Sara graduated with a Masters in Urban Planning from CUNY Hunter College and an BA in Metropolitan Studies; Urban Design & Architecture Studies from New York University.
Ayla Schermer: DOT FTA – Community Planner
Ayla is a 2021 cohort Presidential Management Fellow alumni, working as a Community Planner at the Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in Region 2 (NY, NJ, USVI and PR). The FTA’s mission is to improve America’s communities through public transportation. FTA provides financial and technical assistance to local public transit systems including buses, subways, light rail, commuter rail, trolleys, and ferries. In her role, she is responsible for project planning activities, environmental reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the development, management, and oversight of projects and grants in New York and New Jersey. Ayla has a Masters in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University and a BS in Marketing from New York University.
Solomon Torres: CDC – Public Health Advisor
Solomon is a 2022 PMF working for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Division of Bacterial Diseases (DBD), Office of the Director – Global Program Unit (GPU). As a Public Health Advisor, he provides monitoring and evaluation supports the division’s cross-cutting global portfolio by coordinating the development of global monitoring and reporting automation tool. He engages with both management and scientific leaders across the division on project management of international projects analyzing data from global programs to make decisions about management, funding, staffing, and scientific strategies. In addition, Solomon also manages spends plans and cooperative agreements as part of fiscal management tasks for the division. He graduated with an M.S. in Epidemiology from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, an M.S. in Biochemistry from The City College of New York, and a B.S. in Biochemistry with a double major in Spanish Language & Literature from Stony Brook University.
