About the Event
After his well-received talk “Beyond the Tenure Track: A Legion of Opportunities” at our Post Grad (Center): Engaging Publics with a PhD event, we’ve invited Jason Pedicone back to the Graduate Center to speak more about entrepreneurship in the humanities. Pedicone will share the story of the conception and growth of his own humanities start-up company and discuss how social entrepreneur models can help keep the arts and humanities alive, relevant, and sustainable in a changing economy.
About our Guest Speaker
Jason Pedicone, the co-founder and President of the Paideia Institute, received his PhD in Classics from Princeton University. Jason has taught courses in Latin, Greek, and the history of Classical Scholarship at the university level in the U.S. and Western Europe, and is an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College and Fordham University. Jason’s research and public speaking focus on public humanities and Latin and Greek pedagogy. Jason received a Fulbright Fellowship for research in Germany in 2004, and a Jacob Javits Fellowship in 2013 to support his graduate work. In 2015, together with Paideia’s co-founder, Eric Hewett, Jason was awarded the President’s Award by the Society for Classical Studies for outstanding achievements in promoting the study of Classics.
Since its founding in 2011, the Paideia Institute for Humanistic Study, an independent non-profit organization promoting the study of Latin, Ancient Greek, and the classical humanities, has grown into an international organization with a multi-million dollar budget. It now reaches thousands of students every year through its study abroad-programs, online classes, digital humanities, and outreach initiatives in the field of Classics.
