The vast majority of PhD graduates that Google hires do software engineering (SWE) for the company, but you don’t need a PhD in computer science to be a software engineer. At this event we’ll discuss Google’s “hybrid approach” to PhD-level research, which combines bleeding edge research with a focus on delivering results that can be used by the product engineering teams. Example results are Google Translate, Voice Search, and Content ID.

Google hires PhD SWE interns and full-time employees in virtually every department and has hiring focuses this year in Ads, Privacy, and Security. We’ll discuss these opportunities, as well as machine learning, which is of paramount importance to Google.
